have the hardest time with comes from  Exodus 12:22-25

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

"so that her fruit depart from her" means she has a miscarriage - this is without a doubt an induced abortion but so long as the woman is not permanently harmed the penalty is to pay a fine and only if the woman is killed is the penalty death.  If god really gave a rats ass about the unborn then the penalty for causing an abortion would certainly be death but it's not, so the only lesson we can take from this is that god doesn't care about abortions.  I've had some dimwits try to tell me that "fruit departing" means a premature delivery but they conveniently forget that this is bronze age medicine that we're talking about here and that a baby born prematurely by more than a week or so was almost certain to die.

      passage.

What this means is that evangelicals who are against abortion are utterly intellectually dishonest. They hold to sola scriptura, Luther's idea that the only authority for Christians is the Bible. But the Bible is actually pro-abortion, as other posts here have pointed out.

According to Roman Catholicism, the ultimate authority for what Christians should believe is not the Bible, but the Roman Catholic church hierarchy. And this hierarchy decided in the 19th century that life begins at conception. So a Catholic's believing that abortion is wrong should be treated with some respect.

Evangelicals believing that abortion is wrong (many of them claim that it is "murder"), in contrast, should be treated as nothing but hypocrisy and one more way of oppressing women.

American exceptionalism is America's road to perdition.
