One problem with declaring Christianity the State Religion -- not the biggest problem by any means, but one which the proponents seem oblivious to -- is that if Christianity becomes Official, then we must have an Official Definition of what counts as that Official Religion.

Some Christians hold that only churches which ascribe to the traditional Creeds count as Christian, which would eliminate creedless faiths; some say that the Mormons and the Jehovahs Witnesses don't count because they differ from orthodoxy on the Divinity of Christ.  Heck, there are a lot of Protestants who believe that Catholics aren't Christian!

This is the situation The Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity way back during the Roman Empire.  There were scads of varient sects even then.  So which ones get recognizes as legal and which ones don't?  Well, the solution we have today is to legalize all of them, but Constantine's solution was to convene a council to Standardize Christian Dogma.

Now Constantine only had to worry about Christianity being one legal religion among many.  If Christianity becomes a State Religion, then it will have to be be Regulated for Quality Control; and who's going to do that?

     The Secular Government of course.
