    But also it benefits the entire GOP movement to destroy the quality of our educational system. If they don't teach critical thinking in schools, getting people to vote against their own interests is a lot easier.

    A true craftsman will meticulously construct the apparatus of his own demise.

      public and private religious schools and have found critical thinking taught much more in the private than the public, especially in the Jesuit community.

      •  take a look at some imposed public curricula (5+ / 0-)

        and you will discover in many cases that critical thinking is not a major value

        I will also note there are non-public schools who totally discourage critical thinking, whose primary purpose is to indoctrinate in their (usually religious) values.

        No student got through my classes in public schools without being challenged on her thinking, being assisted in learning how to think - and express - in greater depth and with greater precision.
