  •  Sonny Boy died in 1965 in Helena... (4+ / 0-)

...so before my time. I knew Sam Carr, John Weston, members of the Houston Stackhouse family. Worked with Sonny Payne on KFFA radio...home of "King Biscuit Time" Radio show. The King Biscuit "Hour" show was a classic rock show inspired by the original (and still running) 1941 blues program "King Biscuit Time" which has led to a blues festival, etc. Lots of good players from down there. Many of the old time greats lived there...Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy, Little Walter, James Cotton, etc. Lonnie Shields, Earnest Roy, Shine Turner...are three living players that represent the Helena sound. There are several people still in Helena, Ar. who still remember Sonny Boy- Radio host Sonny Payne and music store owner Morse Gist are two examples.
