It's not true that everything about Benghazi has been said; because Republicans made it a ridiculous partisan issue involving alleged conspiracies, we haven't been able to look at the real question which is whether or not US diplomats should have been in a provisional setting without any of the security that goes without saying at objectively less hazardous postings.  We can safely dispatch conspiracy, but we can't dispatch negligence or carelessness and I don't want any part of trying to.  As for Social Security not being enough for the mom to attend her son's ceremony, the obvious questions are (a) why the State Department didn't pay her way in the first place, and (b) why is Social Security so paltry that even in the absence of Republican initiatives to cut it further, initiatives that now have nominal White House backing, she couldn't afford to make the trip on her own?

There's something more that unseemly about criticizing the mom for asking perfectly legitimate questions and for taking the help that was offered to her, rather than help that wasn't.

    •  she's not asking any questions (5+ / 0-)

she's saying she's being told to shut up - even though she has no idea what happened and has nothing to say

It's beyond my ability to research but I seriously doubt the State Dept has ever paid carfare for family to get to these ceremonies, and in this day and age of sequester, where would the money come from even if they had? Hannity is trying to create an equivalency between her travel costs and Obama's vacations and that I find repugnant.

I'm not sure why we are so certain that her account--that's she's being told to shut up--is false, since that seems to be the government's response to any number of questionings of its actions and inactions.  I think that by reflexively defending the government's "shit happens" explanation, we're letting the Right determine how we look at matters rather than looking at them as we'd almost certainly want to in the absence of the Right's blatherings.

seems pretty obvious. Shut up re asking for public testimony by the survivors, perhaps? Shut up re asking for public testimony by the 'first responders', perhaps? Shut up re asking for public progress reports on punishing the perpetrators, perhaps.? Shut up re asking why the Ms Lamb, State's embassy security chief was not fired, merely reassigned within State, perhaps?

Perhaps she has no idea what happened because nobody will tell her/us.

Perhaps you know all you need to know because that's all you want to know. That point of view has precedent throughout history, left, right and center.
