      Does he really want to constantly keep the statements that were made in the news so he complain about the unfair way they were obtained? Seems like a plan that would backfire.

        Kvetching is most politicians' favorite pastime. Besides, the more Sen. McConnell and his people bitch and moan about "Gestapo tactics" and "Watergate-style politics", the less (they hope) people will pay attention to the whole Senate-staffers-plotting-scorched-earth-attack-strategy-against-potential-challenger thing.
