  •  Forgive me, but why is a blogathon going (3+ / 0-)

to stop this from happening? Nobody influential would read it. You're better off doing something in the real world. After all, if you're concerned about real people, a blogathon in a fake world won't do anything for them.

You have to engage in the real world if you want to change it.

    •  Why is one exclusive of the other? (10+ / 0-)

The more people who read these diaries and understand the issue = the more people calling the WH and their Congressmen demanding they find a new solution. If we're not going to write about politics and legislation on this site we might as well just change the name to pooties&woozles.

    •  first you have to get the people riled up and if (7+ / 0-)

you are not yet riled up, fou, why not?

Many of us are supporting these diaries, talking to people in the real world to encourage them to call their reps, we're talking to staff at the WH, senators and reps offices, and if needed, some will be organizing protests at reps local offices.

We do have influential people come here to post diaries, our own reps.

We also have perhaps many in the White House media department, who may or may not post diaries, but whose job it is to "monitor the media."

You have to start somewhere, and if for some, reading diaries here is the first step...........

What are you doing here or in the real world to change it?

Or looking at your signature, perhaps you're not concerned? And forgive me, please, if I got that wrong.

ahead of the general un-reading, non-intertubed population.

It's easy to find a lot of people who have no idea what a Daily Kos is: and some of them are democratic activists. "Never heard of it".

The news we get on the tubes is far superior and more timely than anything on TV and TV news is invariably slanted to a conservative agenda, minus 3 hours a day on MSNBC.

We all know we're being fucked but the average american has no clue and thinks SS is just about to fold.

Dems and liberals have no news/info-spreading media similar to the rightwing and most Americans buy into rightwing framing on this due to that and the Democratic party's LAME messaging. Democrats couldn't call 911 if their house was on fire, the rightwing would already be busy complaining that 911 was an entitlement program and most Americans would believe it.

This country is past talking and voting about this shit.

Auterity will be game over until Americans pour into the streets and stay there and I don't think anything can make them do that.

THAT is why austerity is doing so well and will likely be shoved up our asses no matter what bloggers write.

OWS and a general strike is the very minimum.

Voting is for fools: voting gave us the leaders who want to force austerity on us.

We cant wait 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 more years to fix this "by the rules".

The rules will have to be broken or we will be broken.

        skeptical of this blogathon.

First of all, SS is not "just about to go." Arguing that it's "just about to go" is like arguing that gun control legislation is the end of the second amendment.

Secondly, while there are many examples of activism starting on the Internet, I don't understand why anybody believes they can start anything from a site that generates money for the very news networks that are misinforming the public. You can't crash the same gate that now pays a toll to CNN and other networks that advertise here.

If I were you, I'd crash OFA. I think it's far more effective to initiate discussions within the administration's organizing arm than to preach to the converted.

        That's my $.02.

        •  The fact for 90% of the stuff 'we want' (0+ / 0-)

is to have actual media access like the repubs do.

          Dems. DO. NOT. HAVE. IT.

We have no real resource other than the net to do this.

Repubs control the media that reaches the bulk.
