  •  The photo of Picasso (4+ / 0-)

looks like a "separated at birth" pic to me!

    Rain good. Machinery bad.

As to time travel, I don't so much have a family, so it's about where I would go. I can't pick and would have to do a grand tour of things that that are no longer there, or no longer in their original condition, because of us. Penn Station. The dodo. The library at Alexandria. Pickfair. Bison. That sort of thing.

    Do they make chocolate empanadas?

    •  I'm sure somebody out there (3+ / 0-)

makes chocolate empanadas, but usually they are savory.

Ooh, I want to see the set of the movie Intolerance before it gets torn down (and also confirm my suspicion that my present residence now sits on part of that land). Among other things. That would be cool. But sad. It would make the regret sharper after seeing the real thing instead of pictures.

      •  Well, yeah, that's a problem. (3+ / 0-)

But over the next generation or two, the impact of climate change will destroy so very much of what we've always understood as the long-term background of our lives (snowy winters, sugar maples, seaside resorts, etc). I've already got a warehouseful of regret for stuff that's only starting to happen. A little more won't hurt much.

Somewhere down in the garage is a small purple hat with a dyed-to-match ostrich plume, and my name embroidered on the front. I got it when I was about 9 or 10, at a New York City theme park called "Freedomland". I will not afflict you with its theme song, which I still remember. I never really had a handle on where exactly it was, and I had always wondered what became of it. Turns out, it stood where the giant development called Co-op City is now in the Bronx. This is only vaguely related to your residence on the former site of "Intolerance". (Is "Intolerance" the opposite of "Freedomland"?)

        •  I just read an article (3+ / 0-)

about how the Yangtze River in China has reached the point of no return. Those species of fish living in it that are not already extinct are well on their way, and it is expected to get much worse.

Freedomland?  That sounds like a Tea Party amusement park!
