  •  Probably going to be more common (13+ / 0-)

Dilbit has a higher particular content than crude.  Going to erode those pipelines pretty quick.

    •  I have seen this "fact" that dilbit has a higher (6+ / 0-)

particulate content than other heavy crudes but I have never seen any reference that states that is true. I have seen a report from Battelle in Columbus Ohio from last year that said crude oil derived from dilbit is not more corrosive than any other heavy sour conventional oil. At least you can calculate the likelihood of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) since there is a lot of history with that type of product. But it is not clear exactly what is in the pipeline. And if it is not the heavy crude from Dilbit that has been studied then without further research, including the effect of any particulates, these oil companies should not be so cavalier about shipping it through 50 to 60 year old pipelines that may have had an expected lifespan of 20 to 30 years when they were installed.

I'd tip you but they cut off my tip box. The TSA would put Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad on the no-fly list.
