Dementia is a lot prettier when you have multi millions and can afford to live at the Ritz. I did a quick check and a "Junior suite" is available for Friday at $1000 a night without food. That, despite the name, is only a double room with the possibility of additionally sleeping a child up to 12yrs. Not the very cheapest but no doubt not the accommodation she was in.

families of demented patients, unlike Margaret Thatcher's, clearly, struggle with money, is only fair.

What's NOT fair is insinuating that money somehow makes this horrible condition "easy."

I believe her policies as PM were abhorrent, and that they directly caused misery and poverty. But I can set those feelings aside to offer human sympathy regarding her plight.

is freedom for family members from the daily grind of looking after someone who is departing from them in gradual stages. Everything from servants (or hotel employees) to sort out the "household duties" to nursing staff to help with their physical needs.

Mother could not employ a gardener but made valiant attempts to keep the garden tidy. Not helped when she had to keep Don with her who would spread out the cuttings she had put aside to burn.

She could not afford a chauffeur or even a taxi to take her to his nursing home on the other side of the city.

Thatcher had other staff like her private secretary who shielded her from realizing the extent of her deterioration until frankly it did not matter.  I have heard that for some time she had been completely unaware that she had been PM. Sandy Togsvig (a comedienne) related a story of how several years ago she was seated next to Thatcher at a swanky formal dinner and was told by T's aides not to talk to her. Not going into detail, she discovered why in the course of the meal.

There were moments of pathos in her declining years like the time she was hauled out to her doorstep to waive at the cameras or like this last year when she more or less had to be told to put one foot in front of another by her ghastly son Mark.

Frankly, there are many people (about 60 million in the UK) far more worthy of my sympathy than Thatcher. Like a fairly near neighbour who I had to rescue when her sandal broke as she walked home (she has swollen feet due to her medical condition) who cannot get sufficient advice on getting proper shoes because the minimal time she gets for home support due to the "small society" spending cuts that are Thatcher's legacy.

the Ritz was not charging for her room. She did a lot for its owners and usual guests in her day, you see.
