  •  Actually, for a time I worked for an organization (0+ / 0-)

associated with the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and I've had many friends through the years who were Quakers, Unitarians, and liberal Menonites (yes, they exist).  I'm a big fan of the Catholic Church; and my 80+-year-old cousin who is a nun is a good heart  and, abortion-aside, progressive feminist.   So I've had a lot of exposure to liberal religious people.  I have great respect for believers who forgo the intolerance of non-belief, triumphalism, self-righteousness, and privilege-demanding typical of American churches and their churched.  But outliers don't disprove the general relationship between theism and these typical characteristics of the religious in America.
