  •  I didn't think Obama was up for election in 2014. (0+ / 0-)

I see what you did there.

    •  he's not up for election ever again, (7+ / 0-)

with one exception. He IS running for the ex-presidency. And to win that position, you have to please the 1% who will be in a position to keep you in cushy sinecures, private jets, champagne-and-caviar cocktail parties, gushing sycophantic media coverage, and million-dollar-a-pop speaking engagements for the rest of your long, comfortable post-presidential life.

So yes, he is campaigning mightily for that position by doing the bidding of the wealthy and powerful who have been angling to cut the safety net since FDR helped enact it 80 years ago.

But we have nothing more to offer Obama; our utility to him ended last November. He got what he needed from you, and he can now ignore you and your concerns without the slightest consequence to him. And he's doing just that.

    •  Hasn't Obama basically said it's a good idea, (2+ / 0-)

because he thinks getting a deal done is a good idea, and this is part of the proposed deal?

      •  Not necessarily true on its face. (1+ / 0-)

You would presumably offer a murderer arm in exchange for sparing your child's life, without thinking that cutting off your arm is a good idea.

I get why so many people think that Obama 'wants' Chained CPI, or is at least really willing to use it as a giveway for some grand bargain. Perhaps it's true, or at least to a degree. Still, for me if he WANTED it, truly wanted it, it would be a done deal already...supposedly the Dem leadership in Congress wants it too and there's no way the Repubs would stop a unilteral change to Chained CPI.

I see what you did there.

        •  Perhaps we think that because it's been the (0+ / 0-)

goal of the DLC, New Democrats, Third Way for decades.

Others have simply gotten old. I prefer to think I've been tempered by time.
