  •  Joan don't fall for this shit-it's a dodge and a (13+ / 0-)

Head feint.  Now is not the time to be touching SS and other earned benefits, not with the current band of teahadists occupying our House of Reps - and with whom the current WH occupant is so intent on reaching some Grand Ripoff.

    •  yah, it's wearying (7+ / 0-)

to see the crumbs floating from the Chattering Class, isn't it?

Until Mr. Obama comes right out and takes these programs off the proverbial table, today's Village Proclamations are just another chapter in the "relax, we got this" propaganda milieu.

He weren't the one who kept giving Lucy the proverbial football!
        •  Obama has been in favor of cutting SS all along (4+ / 0-)

I predicted it would happen in a grand bargain after the Presidential election last year.  Obama tried to make it happen, but two things made it very difficult.  One was that progressives won big in national elections (not so much at the state level but that's another discussion) and this made it harder to justify cuts.  The bigger factor, however, is that the Republicans are so extreme that they would not go along with the grand bargain.  It was all political theater, but the extremist republicans hadn't read the script.  Maybe more like professional wrestling where one of the participants doesn't know it is fake.

Blue Dogs had their asses handed to them in the last couple of election cycles. Are those corrupted Dems still standing so sure of themselves that they really believe that people have forgotten this?

Oh, btw, did you know that Mr. Obama is a progressive again? That's been the spin all day long. I can't wait til it reverts back to "The man didn't run as a progressive! You're so naive...". Boy, I'm gonna have a field day re-posting links from today, lol!

    •  Yes, it is sh*t (5+ / 0-)

      Another shiny object to distract.

You can research all you want Joan, but 'we' are disappointed in you, for not recognizing that this will never fly or be considered.

People have to take the example of the NRA, and rise up in indignant righteousness against any whisper of reducing future benefits.

It will be harder because there is not an organization with unlimited propaganda money to lead this.

SS is not theirs to take.

We are local reps in the Democratic Party.  If we and millions of others resign over this, stop giving, organizing, going, participating at levels from the low to middle level, then maybe the WH and Congress will get the message.

We've already sent e-letters to the 2 NY Senators and House Rep. as well as the WH.
