  •  Yep, we've been getting "process" politicians (8+ / 0-)

on the "left" (such as it is within the Democratic party). Not conviction politicians.

    •  Yeah, well (13+ / 0-)

Fuck Margaret Thatcher. We live in a democracy and in a democracy you govern by consensus. And it's the job of real Democrats (both of them), to make a strong case for progressive policies.

That is what we haven't seen in years. This is one of the problems with the lesser evil strategy of electing conservative Democrats because they are not Republicans - they are tongue tied when it come to advocating the kind of real solutions progressiveness represents.

In the last 2 years, I have had 7 conversations with 7 conservative voters. In every single case, I have succeeded in making them state, out loud, by the end of the conversation, something to the effect of, "Well, now that you put it that way, I guess I would support a single payer insurance plan."

      In every case.

Now, I've been refining and practicing this pitch for almost 2 decades. But it's not that hard. So when people say, "It's a red state, we're luck for what we can get,"
they're full of shit. The electorate is not a static thing politicians have to cater to. These are people, even those fooled by right wing propaganda, desperate for a good idea.

But you won't see Democrats selling good ideas because Democrats aren't in the business of reforming anything or solving problems. They are in the business of squelching discontent among the left while they slowly allow the right to transform this country.

Why did Wall Street pluck young Mr Obama out of obscurity and send him to the White House? Because he was the perfect solution to their problem. The Republican brand was fucked (it still is), they needed a new face for their very old agenda, and here was this young, extremely charismatic neoliberal from the Chicago School, groomed by all the wrong people, who was clever enough to take right wing ideology (neoliberalism) and smooth talk it to a bunch of liberals.

And it worked. We've just witnessed, over the last 6 years, probably the greatest PR coup in history. The "community organizer." Hilarious. The only community Obama organized in Chicago was the community of wealthy foundations and real estate developers who had wanted for years to demolish the projects so they could replace them with condos. And that's what Obama and Richard Daley accomplished there.

Obama's greatest accomplishment on the national stage, by far, is making the left accept, even defend, what they were vehemently opposed to only 2 years before.
