  •  Betraying 8 decades of core party principle is (18+ / 0-)

apparently fine, too, esp. when someone who approves of it speaks as the tribune of "everyday Democrats."  Admittedly, I'm more of an abstract thinker, but my main problem is w/ a Dem president who, time and time again, tries to sell his party's legacy for a mess of pottage.   The only reason why his attempts haven't been as successful as he would've hoped thus far is b/c the people w/ whom he tries to make the sale are too intolerant, incompetent, and inflexible to buy.

It was bad enough making backroom deals w/ Billy Tauzin, selling out the PO, and imposing an individual mandate that he campaigned against.  It was worse to bail out the Too Big to Jail banks while leaving underwater homeowners to fend for themselves.  Consciously choosing to de-engergize SS as the 3d rail of American politics, however, is a bridge too far.

I understand that real people will suffer real pain w/ chained CPI, and it's good that you reminded us of that fact.  My main problem, however, is twice electing a Dem president who so casually casts aside the best part of the party's traditions.  The fact that the party's Senate Finance Chair is running a finishing school for tax lobbyists shows how deeply ingrained the problem is on both ends of PA Ave.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?
