I'm pretty sure this talk of gun control stems from crimes related to guns.  The goal used to be to try to keep criminals from obtaining them.  This has failed.  Because of this, the focus is changing to the guns themselves.

    •  Which I believe is a disservice to the nation. (9+ / 0-)

Once we put the evil of mankind into an object and suffer the mistaken belief that we can punish that object in order to cure our ills - well that kind of thinking is dangerously infective.

I do not wish to live in a world where the laws are made by the most fearful and prudish amongst us.  I wish to live in a world where all people are free and equal to live their lives they way they wish so long as they harm none other.

      •  But we harm (murder) each other every day (1+ / 0-)

That's the point.  And the "fearful and prudish amongst us" is an insult to anyone who has been made a victim by a gun slinger.  This isn't some abstract point being argued in theory.  People are being killed and maimed.  I guess some people won't be convinced until the evil visits them personally.  For many of us, our patience has run out.

        •  Who is we (as in "we" harm each other every day) (8+ / 0-)

Your lumping lawful citizens who chose to take the necessary training and obtain the certification so that they may lawfully arm themselves, with "gunslingers" is also very insulting.

In order to obtain my license to carry a gun, I:
          1) must have no felony record
          2) never committed a violent misdemeanor, e.g. assault
          3) have no history of mental illness
          4) have a clear record of DUI
          5) never committed domestic violence
          6) not be a drug user or alcohol abuser
          7) take training and certification
          8) get a background check done by my county sheriff
          9) get fingerprinted

How many of those things can you say about the "gunslinger" that made you a victim?

          •  We are Americans (0+ / 0-)

All of us.  We don't get to cherry-pick who we wish surrounded us.  One would think this is obvious.  Sorry to lump you in with the rest of us.

            •  If "we" commit crime "we" should be punished. (10+ / 0-)

Your statement is asking for yourself to be locked in jail because you're distributing the responsibility for crime.  Crime is committed by the individual actor(s) undertaking the intent to violate the rights of another person.  It was likely done unwittingly but you've made an argument for an entire police state and to dismiss the entire ideology of rights for every and all people.

If you commit crimes please turn yourself in for the crimes you've committed but don't invent excuses like blame-shifting your criminal acts on any one else.
