  •  Our neighbor's grey long-hair suddenly dashed (9+ / 0-)

across our deck, apparently seeing the youngish squirrels sitting around, munching on food this afternoon.

We have a handful of "friendly" squirrels who come up and beg at our kitchen door for walnuts that we keep in a bag, nearby.  They have become less careful over time near us, but generally jump onto the railing cap to eat each nut - good visibility from there.

One squirrel stayed on the decking and this cat happens to be let out as it desires (we'll never change the minds of our generally congenial, elderly, Irish neighbors on this point) and apparently made it into the yard where I have damaged fencing from a fallen tree to repair this Spring.

The squirrel got away, but made a ruckus around the tree trunk it scaled, in full view of the cat.  The cat didn't want to leave . . . but I gave it the evil eye and it went quickly.

    •  my kids were absolute wrecks (10+ / 0-)

      the first night.
so friday after school i got them busy putting up posters and knocking on our neighbor's doors.  then we visited a shelter at suppertime.

after they went to bed friday night, i walked around my 'hood shaking a bowl of food and calling "here kitty kitty".

i thought someone might report me for behaving strangely.

anyway, i got home and set the food bowl on the front porch.  as i stood back up, pecos came up the steps behind me.

my cats are full-time indoor.  i don't know what got into that cat.  i am not even sure when he escaped.
