  •  If it's the last point in the negotiation why (6+ / 0-)

doesn't Obama simply say this is his final offer.  Or did I miss that?  Lew was on the radio saying this is not the start but finish to a negotiation, but he didn't say this was the final offer.  If it's not then this in not the last point by any means.

    •  Sounds like the finish to me. (0+ / 0-)

I repeatedly claimed that Obama would never propose cuts to social security. I was wrong. Then again, I also claimed, repeatedly, that Rick Perry would win the 2012 Election, and that The Supreme Court would overturn Health Care Reform.

      •  No--Obama will probably take the revenue increases (7+ / 0-)

off the table.  This is what anyone would do if he is operating in "good faith" and all bipartisany!

THEN for SURE the Republicans will agree to the rest of it, right?  Right?

that Obama will completely remove any and all demands for revenues from the mix, and he and the Repubs will beam with pride for the "leadership" the president is providing in (non)balancing the deficit COMPLETELY on the backs of the middle class and poor.

Duh--why didn't I figure that out immediately?  Why am I still so slow???  I certainly had enough examples of this "bipartisanship" in Obama's first term to have become adept at predicting the end "negotiations" terms.  That's why they insist that they will ONLY negotiate with President Obama, who they know will cave before they even have to prop their lips up to say, "Boo!"

After all, appeasing the Teapublican Taliban always works  well for them.  Unfortunately not so much for the  middle class and poor of our country.

    •  I think his aides have, not sure what he has said. (6+ / 0-)

The best way to make this his Best and Final Offer is for Dem Congress people to refuse to vote for chained cpi.  If it already is the BAFO, fine, and if not, opposition will make it so.  And since Rs have rejected it and it hopefully lacks Dem support, it goes nowhere.  It's probably th ebest outcome possible, no Grand Bargain.  The sequester is bad, but I think this may be worse.  For now, those are the choices in Congress.

    •  Obama did say it. I saw the clip of him (0+ / 0-)

saying it.  However, I feel like I've heard him say things like that before, and it turns out not to be the case.
