  •  It might be. (16+ / 0-)

But it's done and the only way to ameliorate that possibility is for Dem congressfolks to oppose it now.  Hard to run an ad about it when the person opposed the policy publically, even when proposed by a President of the same party.

    •  That's the only way. And that means Dems (6+ / 0-)

and near all of them, standing up loud and now "No way I'll vote for this budget." But that ain't going to happen. We've got what, not even a third of Progressives -- Progressives! -- merely signing that pledge going around to not let it happen.

Sadly, the party as a whole is lost in the DC Bubblehead Perception Game. With no real leadership aware of the outside-DC world.

So, slim chance on Dems opposing it loudly and publicly.

      And may I be wrong!

If Republicans said every 3rd person named "Smith" should hang, we'd bargain them to every 7th. Then we'll see apologia written praising this most pragmatic compromise. There's our losing formula.

If you were, I dunno, let's say a southern white male who has a case of the Obama hates, but now had the choice of a local Dem candidate who is "running against Obama" by running on protecting granny's SS, you might possibly feel more inclined to supporting that local Dem, wouldn't you?

      Just saying, it's possible.

Obama has nothing to lose except his reputation. He's not running for anything. If local Dem candidates play this right, they have an opportunity to make inroads with some people who may not have earlier been inclined to support Dems.

I would also hope this would motivate the left base to ALSO vote for their local Dem who is running to protect SS. Why SHOULDN'T this motivate our base? Obama is not on the ticket. He's the perfect foil. Local Dems should come out and oppose the eeevil Obama and the GOP's cuts to SS! Why not?

And yes, it's a gamble, it's a risk, can Obama take the heat from his Left flank? Will it spur motivation and turnout or depress it?

It's a gamble, it's a risk, Obama's been known to do that. But I think it's a calculated one, and if it results in significant gains in '14, that could also accelerate the dissolution and crack up of the GOP.

If Democrats pass this I'm not going to vote for any of them.  I'm going to punish every Democrat on my ballot.  I'm done with the Kabuki.  You hurt me and I get even.  So the time for them to stop this is NOW because I'm not taking prisoners.

just for show, right?  The WH is under no obligation to actually produce this proposal. The budgets are supposed to come from the House, per the constitution.

Administrations really only release budget plans for purely political purposes.  This budget has nothing at all to do with anyone in Congress. It's the President's. Congress has released their OWN budgets. I assume you've seen the Progressive Caucus budget? That's the one I'm personally behind.
