emerge. The present answer is hell no.  Over the next fifty years will Iraq be a solid anchor in turbulent waters or still a weight dragging us, them and everyone else to the bottom.  Among the many mistakes and misjudgments with Iraq I think one of biggest was having no US presence in the country much like we have in Germany and Japan.  Of course it'ss oil that is the driving factor.  If we come up with a substitute or a less dependence on oil then the whole middle east will be off our plate.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

US presence?  Really?  You have an embassy, and you have ex-military there who are "State Department" employees who try to keep the place safe enough.  Do you know how dangerous that is and how much you are paying them to be there?  You think you can afford more....and strife and attacks generated by the Shia militias that hate us for even having that embassy alone?

I want you to go, be that presence, experience that and get back with me :)

You have a threatening presence in Kuwait.  That's not enough?  Being able to be a stabilizing presence was NEVER a possibility for us.
