  •  The GOP could have killed this before (0+ / 0-)

After the GOP regained control of the Senate in the 1994 elections, Democratic Senator Tom Harkin submitted an amendment to eliminate the filibuster and reduce all cloture votes to a 51-vote majority.  He introduced this amendment only 4 days into the new Senatorial session.

Majority Leader McConnell allowed it to come to the floor for vote.  The Republicans made a motion to table it (ie, KILL IT) and every single Republican Senator (while holding a 53-47 majority) voted to kill it.  23 Democratic senators joined them including Reid, Baucus, Mikulski, Feinstein, Levin and Murray.

They could have killed it again in 2005 with a GOP House and a GOP controlled White House and had unrestrained power to pass anything they want and have it signed into law by President Bush.  They were furious about how much GOP legislation and nominations we were filibustering.  ...and once again, 7 GOP senators, and 7 Democrats came forward again to make sure the filibuster was kept in place.

...and yet he we are again.  And when you look at these Senators that are clamoring for this reform, ask yourself: How many of these senators have ever served in the minority?
