i think before people freak out, realize that the republicans are taking the stance that any cuts to SS and Medicare are out? Really?

Will they really be able to reverse positions so drastically? IDK about that.

The threat to our way of life comes from corporations, and the solution is to shrink corporations while freeing government from corporate control.

    •  Of course not (11+ / 0-)

They're going to blame Dems for the cuts that they've wanted all along.  They'll oh-so-reluctantly go along with this budget from the President.  Just don't throw them into the briar patch.

winner. Watch them become the glorious saviors of seniors from the Dem(ons).  They should send Obama a truckload of roses.

And if you don't think they can pull it off, look at the Republican and Democratic parties now and compare them to what they were in 1860.

All it takes is a major issue like slavery or f***ing seniors over.

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed. --Herman Melville

    •  They'll beat him up and then double down (7+ / 0-)

This is really quite simple and they've done it before.  Beyond that, individual congressmen can, and will, take individual positions that match the politics of their district. Obama has a national role...

Of course, conservatives aren't duty bound to refrain from hypocrisy:

      1. Tell seniors that mean old Obama is taking away your benefits and giving them away to his "urban" constituency.
      2. Continue the drumbeat of a broken system with runaway entitlements in preparation for the next opportunity to "fix" it.

Now that the dam has been broken by Obama as an opening gambit, the conservatives can go to town and blame any result on Obama and the Ds.  It doesn't matter where the exact truth is.

The fact remains, Obama is proposing cuts to Social Security. He's not only catapulting right wing propaganda, he's actually making real policy proposals implementing it.

It's funny to think back to the "Hope and Change" campaign...

They flayed him for the same proposed cuts that they proposed.  It will be no problem to do it again.
