  •  To wit, running against Obama. (5+ / 0-)

    There goes the realignment.

Obama's unintelligence as a negotiator is perplexing.  Only eight years ago, on the heels of electoral victory, Bush tried to privatize Social Security.  He never recovered, and termed out in utter disgrace.  Why Obama would serve up the integrity Social Security to a Republican Party now on the cusp of irrelevance -- with the country still mired in underemployment and shrinking buying power -- defies explanation.

The GOP assault on SS isn't ancient history.  It ain't even history.  And it sank the previous president permanently.  Why repeat?

privatization of new contributions to SocSec failed in large part because many GOP members didn't support it. It had bipartisan opposition. I don't think that any form of privatization, even a plan as modest as the one proposed by GWB, is part of any Social Security discussion at this time.

      "let's talk about that"
