    and the rights of americans to own them is as foundational as was slavery. It's part of the national identity. And I think it's as ingrained as racial attitudes in America. Maybe more.

    As an AA, (and a gun owner) I thought about it pretty hard before saying it. But IMO it's in the same ballpark, which, if you think about it, is pretty astounding.

        on the lives of African slaves and as I said, the attitudes about people of african descent, IMO, is as ingrained in the American culture as is the right to own guns.

        I'm talking about thee two issues in terms of cultural shifts. Obviously they aren't the exact same. but in terms of how much the culture would have to shift very old very ingrained mindsets, to me, it's very similar.

        a slave could have, so long as he could afford it. It wasn't specifically enumerated because it didn't have to be.
