a gun, I'm not sure that would fall on the mfg.

I see what you did there.

    •  Who said anything about purchasing? (0+ / 0-)

A device that has little to no safety features is an accident waiting to happen. Most products on the market today have a multitude of circuit breakers, locking mechanisms and child safety features not because they were made for kids but so kid's don't operate them period.

      •  Almost all guns have a Safety and must be loaded (0+ / 0-)

in order to fire. Manufacturers do not make guns pre-loaded.

The car analogy above actually works, though I loathe car-gun analogies from both sides of this debate. Toyota does not make cars that drive themselves, so unless the issue was a mechanical malfunction, they're not liable.

        •  You're starting to sound like the NRA (0+ / 0-)

You mistake the term "safety" for actually being a safe product. A simple switch on a gun isn't enough to make the gun "safe". That is the line a troll would take.

Guns are very unsafe in their design, as I have said repeatedly, but you keep parsing words to respond to that argument.

A gun can be operated by a toddler even if it's safety switch is on. It can actually be loaded by a child as well. The realty of the matter is right in front of you but you seem to not wish to see it. Products sold in the United States have to overcome rigorous testing and manufacturers are liable if they are unsafe. But firearms are excluded from that liability. This has caused firearms to become lax in their safety design standards. If firearms included improvements over the years like every other product out there we wouldn't have so many accidental shootings now would we?
