  •  We have a credit monitoring service (7+ / 0-)

(Best money ever spent. It notified us of identy fraud and we were able to get on top on it with 12 hours. But I digress...)

One of the things it offers is monthly FICO scores from all three credit agencies. It also provides a "what if" option where you can run various scenarios, like "what if I close this specific account?"

We recommend this service to everyone. The sheriff who handled our identity theft case went home and signed up for it that night.

If you really don't understand how the whole credit score thing works, watching your scores from month to month (which fluctuate based on your bances, often by as much as 20 pts, which is huge if you're in the "average" score range) is educational. It shows you who is watching your credit, when they pull reports (usually not on your due date, so you may want to pay your bills by a different date if you want to improve your scores), etc.

There are two major companies that do it. We use Identity Guard. If you're a Costco member, there is usually a discount for members.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not. -- Me.
