In his time Gore was very much a neoliberal, helping to found the DLC. After 2000 he became irrelevant politically, in many ways by his own actions. We seem to be limited to either ineffectual principled Dems or cynical "pragmatic" neolibs. Where are the FDRs and LBJs, progressives who know how to win?

And he was a lousy presidential candidate.

at least back in 2008, when I voted for him twice.

As some have said he was a blank slate, but after 4 years, he was not such outstanding presidential candidate the second time around.

Four more years! less a few months, and if it continues like the first few months, it is going to be quite a ride, just not one some may want to go on.

Absolutely. Like many I cried when he won. You had to be unimaginably cynical (or a close former friend or associate) to not have been moved a bit by that, even if you knew a lot of his public persona was hype (and by then, after FISA, many of us did). But as president? Meh. Good stuff, bad stuff, middling stuff.

Yeah, we fell for it. We always do. Will next time around too. Perhaps not you or me personally, but enough. There's suckers born every minute. The system depends on it.

I lose faith early on in his admininstation.

I do not know what the answer is going forward with poverty at levels not seen in decades and the same for income inequality in this country, but I do know neither side seems to be paying much attention, too busy with the 1%.

We will remember come November......someone said that and I agree.

and began speaking out after that election was VERY different from the one who ran in 2000. That is who I supported and tried to get to run in 2007–2008.
