      Doing this in the spring of 2009 was smart. Doing it 4 years later, after what he/we have seen since then? Not necessary, and not smart.

        if it gets the GOP to argue against their own stupidity and demand Obama not cut Social Security, is that actually stupid? I've been hearing this for 5 years now and he hasn't sold us out yet.

          Why doesn't he get the GOP on record as opposing things everybody wants, instead of proposing things nobody wants to "box them in", or whatever it is you think is going on?
          It's not as if the former tactic won't work equally well, since they oppose everything that is of value, but this has the added benefit of being something other Dems in office can unite behind for campaign purposes . . . It's a heck of lot easier to tell your constituents that everyone in your party believes "Policy X" than trying to explain why the freaking President of the US just proposed "Policy Anti-X."
