  •  David Atkins at "Hullabaloo" had the perfect take- (6+ / 0-)

down of this silly shit as another Rube Goldberg Obamacare-like substitute for real policy that is so beloved by the jejune, Ivy League technocratic wonks that PBO seems to favor so much, being one himself.  (Actually, I added that very last part myself because it's exactly how I've begun to see him.)

Sorry, no link--I'm a Luddite doing this from my phone. But the read is well worth the short trip over there.

deliberate neoliberal application.  Obama has been driving in this direction since he was in the IL senate.  Atkins still can't admit his guy is exactly what he does and not what he says.  Obama has always understood the power of words and his bedazzled audience has never taken his measure accurately.

did--that Obama has wanted this all along because he is not a progressive or even a liberal but a value-free technocratic wonk whose major ambition is acceptance by the Very Serious People of the Village,  whom PBO sees as constituting the height of intelligence and serioussness,  even though in reality they're simply shallow buffoons posing as sophisticates.

differences.  Depends, I suppose, on whether you consider neoliberalism an incompetent economic theory and practice.  I think its prescriptions are generally ruinous but very advantageous, shorter term, to certain elements.

          •  Doesn't sound like we disagree at all. Technocrats (0+ / 0-)

tend to work for the interests and values of those who employ them.  Of course, we know who the employers of most of our politicians are; and it ain't the people or even the voters who put them in office.  This doesn't have to be a thing as crass as bribery, but simply the "soft capture" that James Kwak describes -- the assimilation of the world view of the people you hang around with and the people who befriend you (e.g , with big campaign contributions).  How many real liberals -- with the possible exception of  Uncle Joe -- has PBO surrounded himself with?

called the senator from MBNA for nothing.  In 2008, I did some backgrounding of Uncle Joe Biden, the senator from the state next door, and Joe Biden is not a liberal, altho he might pass for such in these degenerate times.  There really is no left left in America so thoroughly have communism and socialism been demonized and cast out of the permissible political discussion in this country that the entire left of the politically acceptable begins at the middle.  And even then, Joe Biden is somewhat to the right of there.  Check him out.  You know who's liberal?  George Romney, Mitt's dad.  Check him out.  Makes you wonder if Mitt's life is an extended adolescent rebellion.
