      His stoned-out genius was appreciated in Pop Culture at the time of his death -- Ruby Keeler was even on Broadway, and MGM's That's Entertainment series used a number of his sequences.

        I remember (from the early '70s) midnight showings of Berkeley's Warner Brothers musicals at a local movie theater, with audiences full of hippies and other disreputable types. ;-p And that Broadway musical featuring Ruby Keeler? No, No, Nanette. Big revival at the time.

        I have a friend who's never heard of Busby Berkeley. My friend is something of a stoner on his days off, and I keep wanting to expose him to the Master one of these days. As part of the boxed set of Berkeley musicals I have, there is a special disk that's a compilation of the best production numbers. That seems like the perfect introduction. :-)
