  •  It's so great! What about the IED set-up w/ Tim? (1+ / 0-)

One of the incredible things about Justified, and this comes straight from Elmore Leonard, is that even though Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Givens is an awesome character, the show is willing to hand off the heavy work of an episode to a more minor character. Raylan's partners Tim and Rachel, and his boss Art, all have episodes where what they're doing is given the major focus of the episode.

Particularly, in season 4, there is a story arc between an Iraq War veteran U.S. Marshall, and an Iraq and Afganistan veteran working for Boyd Crowder's criminal organization. The dialogue between the two is just dynamite.

I can't find any video, but there's an exchange where Marshall Gutterson (the veteran) is leading a convoy trying to escape a holler with a fugitive very much wanted dead, and he orders the convoy to stop, sensing an IED trap set-up with broken down cars on the road and there's this:

Art Mullen (Cheif Deputy of the Lexington Marshall's office and Tim's boss: "You absolutely sure about this?
Marshall Tim Gutterson: "No, I'm not sure. For all I know, I could be having a full-blown PTSD episode."
    Art: "You get those often?"
Tim: "Only when I'm carrying a firearm in public."
The delivery is so dry and perfect. I can't do it justice.

If you haven't seen the show, I highly recommend it. It's about as close to perfect (The Wire) as television gets. Just impeccably written, directed and acted. Don't be turned off if all you know of Elmore Leonard has been some of the other screen adaptations of his novels and stories. They've been spotty at best. This is the real deal.

    •  That IED trap sequence was phenomenal. (1+ / 0-)

The way Tim handled it was so skilled that even Colton was impressed enough to eliminate the Chicago guy he was paired up with.
