I only recently discovered Mad Men, and just finished the first season, watched series 1, season 2. Love it. Lived it. Well, actually I have not ever lived in Manhattan or worked in advertising but I did live through the 1960s as an adult woman. Yes, Mad Men makes caricature of some social trends of the sixties, but I do find the series hits closely to those times. I knew the bettys and the peggys and in some ways was them, and I knew the off-madison avenue rogers and dons (and other actors whose names escape me).

A hazard of catching up from the beginning of a long running series is over-exposure, wherein some of the characters and the storylines become downright annoying. For me, that happened in catching up with Downton Abbey in a short time. Call the Midwife has some compelling characters, and hasn't been on long enough to become over exposed so it remains a favorite.

Now I can watch some of the recommended series and avoid the over-exposure syndrome of catching up on just one or two series.
