of SS recipients are largely white and vote Republican that it's OK to throw them under the bus?!  First off, my husband and I are white and we have both voted straight Democratic tickets for 45 years. We have a lot of friends just like us.  Don't make assumptions about who does/doesn't vote Democratic.   Second, NO ONE, and I don't care what color they are or how they vote, deserves to live in poverty because they're on SS.  That anyone thinks it's OK for others to suffer flies in the face of being a Democrat----that is, that we actually give a damn about the elderly and the poor and the disabled vets and anyone who is treated unjustly or unfairly.

Do you remember the blow-up of Tech stocks in 2000?  Do you realize that a lot of people now or about to come on SS lost a ton of money in that and didn't necessarily recover from it in their pensions and 401(k)s?  You surely recall the blow-up of the housing bubble and the implosion of the Wall Street banks due to fraudulent practices they enabled that led to the housing market blowing up in 2008.  Do you understand that TRILLIONS in pensions and 401(k)s and just plain old vanilla savings got blown to smithereens then?  Do you understand that the Zero Interest Rate Policy of the Federal Reserve means those retired are being forced to spent their capital because their money earns NOTHING today? Any educated person knows that SS is not intended to be their sole source of income in retirement.  HOWEVER, there are millions of people today who do not have the resources any longer to replace what should be there to supplement their SS.

So, you'll excuse me if I don't applaud what you wrote here or what you intend to do.  Chained CPI is nothing but a way to CHEAT retirees out of money that belongs to THEM and that they paid into the SS Trust Fund.  Further, what the President is proposing regarding Chained CPI and the "bump" that will be provided at 10 and 20 years is opening the door wide for every Congress and President that follows him to screw further with Social Security.  This is an outrage.  It is not necessary; it had NOTHING to do with balancing the budget.  The SS Trust Fund is NOT part of the U.S. budget.  It is separate from that and to bring it in to this current budget process is another outrageous "trick" by our current politicians.  As Markos noted, NOT EVEN PAUL RYAN put Chained CPI in his vile budget.

So, you can do as you wish, but people like you are buying into an immoral act being promulgated by the President of the U.S. against the elderly poor, disabled vets, Federal employees, and a heck of a lot of other people who did NOTHING to deserve being treated like this.
