  •  For Obama, this is not a bug, it's a feature. (12+ / 0-)
President Obama's offer to cut Social Security is a political disaster in the making. For Democrats.
Obama couldn't shed that Democratic House and filibuster-proof Senate fast enough. People were going to expect him to accomplish things for the American people instead of for Jamie Dimon and Pete Peterson.

So he did pretty much everything he could to avoid holding Republicans responsible for the mess the country was in. That helped revive the Republican Party for the 2010 elections and it has been smooth sailing for him ever since.

What we need is a Democrat in the White House.

    •  But that's the bipartisan way! (8+ / 0-)

One party helping out another.  It used to be that a president tried to win victories over the other party.

The tone in Washington really has changed, just as the President said he wanted.

Of course, old people, veterans, and countless others will have to get fucked over to accomplish it, but still, what an achievement!

Cutting Social Security will end my support for the Democratic Party.

say "smooth sailing." the Republicans are not reasonable enough--at least their right flank isn't--to be able to accept what ought to be a gift from the gods to them.

      Otherwise, correct analysis.

if necessary for years; if necessary, alone

    •  We never had a filibuster-proof Senate. For that (0+ / 0-)

matter, we only had 60 Senators for a couple of months, what with the Republicans refusing to allow Franken to take his seat until Kennedy was so ill he could never be there, and even then, we had Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln to contend with.
