then the White House has already failed. When the base of the Democratic Party is puzzled, particularly the activists that pay very close attention to every nuance, then the low information crowd has no clue. That seems like a guaranteed path to failure. Rather than shape the narrative and push for policies that protects the most vulnerable, the WH trotted out a budget document as a specific plan to counter Ryan and the tea punks.

Take a look at the discussions we have been having. The basic question boils down to whether the president gives a damn about people struggling at the bottom of the economic ladder, including seniors who rely on Social Security and Medicare to stay out of poverty. This budget creates a vast gulf between his soaring rhetoric and the potential reality of poverty and despair.

Consider the Overton Window. The Republicans want to do away with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. What Obama has done has moved the Overton Window a step in that direction. Whether that was his goal or merely a side effect of a poorly conceived policy, it hurts these programs. It creates a narrative that they are responsible for deficits rather than welfare for the wealthy and warmongers. There is no excuse for that.

    Be radical in your compassion.
