    calculation, I don't know what is.  Even if your political calculation were right I reject it on moral grounds.

    But you're wrong even on the politics.  Lots of those old folks who don't matter to you because they don't vote the way you want have kids and grandkids and great-grandkids. And what's more, an awful lot of them will get old one day too, and not all of them are oblivious to that fact.

      other than chained CPI, which would, after 10 years of compounding, lower avg. benefits by $30 a month. Not sure I agree that that one change would result in massive changes in voting habits. The reaction from the left is simply not proportional to the proposed change. And the flip side is all of the positives we on the left would get if Obama's 2014 Budget were enacted as proposed (which it won't be, of course).
