  •  Teach to the test will make sure that the only (14+ / 0-)

    jobs for these students are in minimum wage.  We certainly can't teach people to think for themselves - that would be too progressive.  No liberal arts for these students - if people can think they can figure out what is happending and do something about it.  We need robots that follow simple directions.

      with the standardized tests (FCAT's) & their repurcussions and consequences.  In my view, it's no way to run schools - the reasons are clear, bright and quite evident.  I don't need to elaborate here.

      Florida, under Jeb Bush and his cronies - went full steam ahead on the FCAT program.  It came in and took over the schools like a fungus.  Sad.  To one who believes in a well rounded and strong public education system with well-paid teachers and staff and with methods that teach critical thinking, writing, debating, scientific methodology,  comparative world governments/philosophies, cultural anthropology, etc. and so many vital subjects that are taught in European and Asian schools - where the students outperform Americans.  I must admit this entire issue is among the saddest developments in our country ov er the past forty years.
