      even VA-06, which having the Shenandoah Valley has been stubbornly Republican. In fact I'd say it's the most historically Republican region in 'the south' aside from East Tennessee/Southeastern Kentucky. However, the degree is far less than both of those regions as neither of those has voted for a federal Democrat in a very long time AFAIK while the 6th district again went for Warner. Rural Democrats still do a lot better in VA-09 though, at least in the last few cycles. Kaine really is the exception because he's much more of a standard liberal on a lot of issues that tend to cause those voters to split their ticket.
