.....pulled the same stunt last year, taking away the designated smoking area that was offered in the past for no other reason but to be sneering assholes standing in judgment of the fans who paid good money to see the home team lose nearly 100 games per year.  I'm not even a smoker, but I was so insulted by this treatment towards their own fans that I didn't go to a Twins game last year for this first time in years and don't intend to go to another one.

I haven't been to Minneapolis, but if I go, I'd love to catch a game. All the great aspects of the new baseball-only parks, but without all the faux-retro stuff. Truly a 21st Century park.

You would think San Francisco would be more tight-ass and yuppie than Oakland, but at least at AT&T Park, you can take an elevator down to street level, grab a smoke, and go back in to watch the game. I do smoke. I wish they had designated smoking areas within the stadium, as they did up until a couple of years ago, but we smokers can and do deal with a lot. Just let us catch a quick puff without surrendering our right to see the rest of the game.

I don't know the circumstances of what changed at Target Field, but often times these rules are dictated by ordinance. Now, how aggressively they enforce those rules is another subject. You used to be able to smoke weed at the Coliseum and everyone just kind of looked the other way. Now, they catch you smoking anything and they're going to bounce you from the stadium with extreme prejudice and no warnings. And to think.... The Bay Area still likes to think of itself as a tolerant and "live and let live" region. Those days are done. It's a damn shame. The discrepancy between what we think we are here, and what we've actually become.

...that would impact Target Field's decision to snub smokers.    It is a beautiful field, but they can keep it if this is gonna be the way they treat their customers.

It's become a culture war at this point, and the left has somehow found itself on the side of intolerance having cherry-picked this single group as worthy of every bit of disrespect they can heave upon it.  Truly disgusting seeing our own side become quasi-James Dobsons over a grievance so trivial in the grand scheme of things.

        •  Doesn't Minneapolis have an ordinance? (0+ / 0-)

Prohibiting smoking on public property. I don't think you can smoke on the sidewalks, streets or public parking lots.

I think you're just thinking of Hennepin County public buildings as opposed to the entire city of Minneapolis.

The expanded policy prohibits the use of all tobacco products on all Hennepin county-owned and single-tenant leased sites or within a 45-foot radius of street-level entrances to these properties (whichever distance is further). This includes county grounds, structures, parking garages, lots and ramps, county-owned vehicles and equipment, and the entire area on Sixth Street underneath the Government Center.
