  •  It's so good... (8+ / 0-)

...when you have a good feeling about a hospital and its staff. They are definitely not all created equal. I think in hindsight that I would have chosen a different hospital for my recent surgery — not that I find any fault with the procedure or the outcome, but I just never got that comfortable feeling with the nursing staff (and the food really sucked!). Previous hospitalizations have been at the University of California Medical Center just up the street from where I live, and they are definitely more state-of-the-art in both facilities AND standard of care (plus the food was better than decent!). As you can see, food matters to me. ;-)

I've had my share of hospitalizations in recent years, partly due to my own health issues and partly due to "natural" aging, so I really empathize with you!

was the one area where this hospital and I struggled. They kept ignoring my requests, or forgetting or something. And I kept having to hound them and call them back to change things. And it's not like they didn't know; it was written down on the paper on the tray, and yet, for example.. they set a cup of coffee next to the big "No coffee, hot or iced tea only". They also set sugar free syrup next to the "no aspartame or artificial sweeteners" on the breakfast tray (I'm allergic to several of them). I got a lot of apologies and kept people running around.
I also seem to get a LOT more junk food in the hospital than I do at home. I mean they are small desserts, but are with every lunch and dinner. I don't eat sweets that often at home, even small ones. Even the fruit always seems to be in syrup or jello or something. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the chocolate brownies with strawberries and whipped cream, but I think that's part of the reason I feel so bad when I get home. I get more empty calories and less nutrition in the hospital.
