  •  So, the president proved that the GOP (3+ / 0-)

doesn't want to cut Social Security. This helps how? It certainly isn't going to hurt them in the election, thought it likely will hurt the Dems. Do you really think that running ads calling republicans unwilling to negotiate are going to be effective at all?

And I really doubt that anywhere close to every voter understands that the GOP asked for this, nor will many care. Obama is offering to cut SS and that's what most people will be aware of.

    •  Yes, it's effective. As calling attention (0+ / 0-)

to their obstruction hurt them in the last election. How did the Dems just win? That was just proved.

      We will have a budget.

The Republicans will bargain or obstruct.

Obama owns the grand bargain, that's his trademark. He was just reelected campaigning on it. If he achieves it, it will favor the Democrats. If the Republicans obstruct, that will only hurt them. And look what they are declining!

If they take the liberal position against the president then they will humiliate themselves. They have no good options.

They've had one option, which is their trademark, demand entitlement reform and obstruct. Their trademark has been taken away.

That's the way I see it. And the Republican leadership I think we'll see, will be trying to change the subject.

On the grand bargain, and because he's got an amazing campaign organization coupled with his lurch to the left just before the election.  If cutting SS were what he got elected on then it would have been a lot closer of a race given that Romney had a very similar position. Pundits love this, the public not so much. Desperately trying to be liked by everyone isn't going to fix anything, especially if the people you're courting are profoundly out of touch with the public. The media is a joke and more and more people are aware of it.
