  •  Having grown up in the UK in the 80/90's (5+ / 0-)

I'm not able to give blood over here in the US :-(

I wish I could - I'm O Neg and therefore a universal donor. But CJD can take up to 20 years to manifest and so far they haven't lifted that restriction.

Which is a pity, because I'm a couple of units away from getting my Silver Heart for 50 units.

I'm a sanctimonious purist. Whatchya gonna do about it?

    •  I thought I got around that (4+ / 0-)

By having been vegetarian for a long time prior to the whole BSE outbreak, but the rule had no exceptions.  On the other side of the Atlantic, the NHS never took my blood because I'm also an insulin-dependent diabetic.

So I have a long history of frustration on this front.

Fake candidates nominated by the GOP for the recalls: 6 out of 7. Fake signatures on the recall petitions: 4 out of 1,860,283.

Does that mean I'm ineligible, too?  If I went in to donate, would they ask me, or would I be expected to know?

Which it sounds like you were, you might have problems donating in the US.

I sort of gave up trying once I moved to L.A in 2000, after the first couple of times attempting to donate, then being told I was too 'high risk'.
