  •  I wonder how much Reagan's total was? (6+ / 0-)

The only thing about the whole gaudy series of spectacles that I recall is amazement that even our coporate media could coordinate such a propagandistic imperial circus.

It's impossible for me to think of Thatcher without her neoconservative equal.  Thatcher was doubtlessly smarter of the two but both were instrumental in paving the way for the destruction and despair that we're having to fight against harder than ever today.

    •  Thatcher was worse than Reagan. (12+ / 0-)

She eliminated the right to remain silent, and passed Section 28, a law making the "promotion" of homosexuality illegal.

It was illegal to fight for gay rights or organize against hatred in Thatcher's Britain.

She destroyed entire industries just to go after unions.

In 1900, 2 out of every  3 ships sailing the seas were built in the river Clyde in Glasgow. In a place like Midlothian, Scotland, they've only recently been able to bring unemployment down to 25%.

She intentionally destroyed 250,000 jobs in Scotland as part of a "managed decline" targeting Scottish Unions. 250,000 jobs in a country of 5 million.

In some areas, Unemployment hit 60-70%.

Meanwhile, she ramped up oil production in Scotland, but used all of the oil wealth to fuel destructive policies, or economic development in England.

130 billion pounds of tax revenue was collected during her premiership from Scotland. That's 23,000 pounds for every man, woman, and child in Scotland. That's a little more than $35,000 a head pilfered by Thatcher.

Glasgow contains the poorest parts of western Europe today, despite the vast mineral wealth of the Scottish people, and it is thanks to Margaret Thatcher.

the full scope.  Her whole reign sounds like the behavior of a third world dictator.

Oh, but as long as they are civil, then that always makes whatever they do to the people fine, according to the propaganda machines and people who are hopelessly politically naive.
