  •  We find and prosecute the individuals responsible (5+ / 0-)

and then dig deeper into what led them to this act, perhaps.

If that leads to a caustic inspiration for this type of act, then so be it - condemnation is easy, in that case.

Otherwise, it might be some extremists who took a particular cause or set of paranoid ideas too far on their own or from within a smaller group.

"So, please stay where you are. Don't move and don't panic. Don't take off your shoes! Jobs is on the way."

    •  The one thing that is certain (9+ / 0-)

is that the person or people who arranged this exquisitely premeditated mass murder walked these same streets and did not stand out from the usual collection of American pedestrians.

They were not phantoms of the night, slipping in and out of the shadows. They were people like you and me, walking, driving, casing the scene while drawing no more attention than someone walking their dog.

Terrorism works because the terrorists are members of our own communities. People you'd share a beer with.

They just have a point to make, no matter what it costs themselves or their victims.

They have nothing to lose by acting. They can only lose when they don't act on their beliefs. They walk among us, and they have their plans. This is how war is conducted in our civilized age.
