  •  When ppl in the US heard about our "Patriots' Day" (5+ / 0-)

yesterday, many thought we had a whole day to celebrate our football team.  No lie.

I laughed when I heard this and said "yup, and if we give a whole day to our football team, imagine what we do for the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Bruins."

My daughter (now living in Denver) set them straight and then told them that she thought the rest of the country was lasps in not having a Patriots' Day too  (other than for Maine)

Thank you for the wonderful diary.

with a speech extolling the superiority of Massachusetts, culminating with a few rousing lines from Longfellow's "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere".  I always emphasize what a great holiday it is, with the Marathon and the Sox game and everyone just being outside and having a lot of fun.  The Marathon was much, much smaller when I was a kid but still a great event.

I'm sad and angry that some creep has taken innocent lives and destroyed that feeling of fun & camaraderie - we have so little of that left in our country.  I know Boston will bounce back, but it's heartbreaking.
