but may I point out that years ago that those who were able to go to college right out of high school because their parents had resources have always put those of us that had to work and go to college at a disadvantage.  It took me twelve years to get my BSW and MSW simple because I had to pay as I went and different jobs made demands on me and my time.  I can't tell you the struggle I had working as a legal secretary and going to school.  My life was literally owned by the attorneys I worked for.  I spent more of my life catering to their needs in 1980s which is why I wanted so badly to own my own life instead of being at the mercy of my boss.  I can't tell you how many family get togethers, or plans for dinner, or classes were cancelled because the attorney needed me to stay on work on a brief.

I do think things are worst today, but those who struggle have always been swimming up stream against those who don't.

i was told by Rutgers to qut my job teaching and come full time, as i was taking up space that could be better occupied by a full timer. bastards. i told them your catalog advertises a part time program, and if you won't adhere to it i will take it up with a provost with whom I was friendly. that shut them the fuck up.
