About Rachel Carson. It is now a must have.

I remember one story told about how she did her research. Whenever she disturbed an animal or fish from its environment, she did her best to return that critter back to the outside world at exactly the same spot where she had plucked the unfortunate critter.

We will possibly not see her likes again, especially given that almost all our governmental agencies want "Corporate-Controlled" researchers to develop their mission of "protecting the environment."

Yes, you are quite right. She always returned any animals that she studied to their place of origin. She once rescued a firefly who was totally confused by bioluminescence and fell into the sea where she was walking. She carefully picked it up and took it past the dunes in the hope it would find other fireflies instead of a water death.

She was, like Loren Eiseley, a star thrower.
