  •  2014 will be Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, and maybe not (3+ / 0-)

so much about guns, since I doubt the economy will be regulated enough to return much wealth back to working folks by then, nor will the overall national welfare and security be much improved.

I suspect we'll be seeing people trying to sell off some of those expensive Bushmaster rifles and cases of ammo to keep themselves in shelter and food by 2014. Background checks versus ease of selling them off could be competing interests. Keeping our society under duress, stress and threats foreign & domestic doesn't seem very hard for our current crop of elected officials.

    •  Off year election, guns makes a good turnout (8+ / 0-)

issue for Dems. The gun crowd always shows up to vote, so I don't think they have as much room to grow their turnout.

    •  2014 will be Obamacare for the GOP (2+ / 0-)

They will try to repeat the formula they used in 2010: Lies, lies, and more lies.

    •  Where are the jobs? (4+ / 0-)

They've been talking jobs, jobs, jobs,  for years, and no jobs have materialized.  There were graphs up recently showing that pretty much every bit of downturn in the unemployment numbers could be linked to people simply giving up on being employed, and no longer being counted.

If they want to talk jobs, we need to nail them down to exactly how they'll do it.  How many jobs, in what, paying what.  They promised jobs jobs jobs the last two election cycles and failed utterly to deliver, so why should we believe them now?

    •  Maybe not 2014, but in 2016 economy will always (1+ / 0-)

be the biggest driver of money and votes.  You have your coalitions which are loyal.  But, most Americans vote based on whether they themselves are doing well or not.

The gun fight is just beginning.  But, in the 2016 election, economy will be central.  As long as the divide between the 1% and everyone else increases after eight years, we face a huge uphill battle.

It seems like Republicans know that and are just buying time because Obama isn't standing firm for the "middle class".  But, he sure is good at appointing people from Monsanto, Walmart, fracking proponents, etc. to his administration and not going after the banks for destroying home equity values, the economy or laundering money for terrorists or drug cartels.  Maybe he's taking this Lincoln concept of keeping his enemies close, too far.

He's brilliant.  Let's hope he knows something we don't cuz this doesn't look good for his base.
