  •  My dear Vetwife, I saw this on the rec list, (9+ / 0-)

and I went back to read your diary,
    the one that was interrupted
in the comment and respond period,
    by the call you got,
informing you that your father was gone.

I came back and read every comment in this thread,
and clicked rec on every one.

My mother, Eva, died on a Friday,
    the 16th of April,

My father, Don, died on a Saturday morning,
at 2 AM (I was in the hospital room)
    the 27th of January,

My first wife, Pam, died on a Tuesday,
    about 10 AM,
    the 11th of March,

I wrote a diary here at Daily Kos about her death,
    and I asked for comments.

I got a lot of standard condolence comments,
while I feel grateful for all that,
I found myself wishing for comments
that were a little more creative,

    That's why I'm giving you this long comment;
I'm trying to give you more,
more than a short and easy,
    "My thoughts are with you."

    But maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe I should have just written,
    my thoughts are with you.

    Drive carefully,
    take along a travelling companion,
    if possible.

    Play music.

I like to imagine I'm in front of a class
    of college freshmen,
and I'm telling them all about what we need to do,
    to rescue America from famines,
    farming our yards,
    more contraception,
so there will be more yards to farm
    for each family,
    in future generations.

    That's what I do,
    when I'm driving alone.

    Take a deep breath.

    Make a written list
of what you need to do,
    a written schedule,
    of when you'll do things.

    Move ahead,
    one step at a time.

    We're thinking of you.

Bringing a child into the world at this point in history is a crime, the crime of child endangerment.
