The town is about two miles in length and a mile wide.

The plant is on the Northeast edge of town and a quarter mile from the high school.

The football field, Middle, and intermediate schools are across the railroad tracks from the plant.

The nearest homes are less than a tenth of a mile from the plant.

Half of the town is likely demolished and local fire departments are likely unable to save much of the town.

    •  Texas DPS just had a press conference. (3+ / 0-)

The apartment complex which was demolished was one tenth of a mile from the plant and only a park and tennis courts between the complex and the plant.

The nursing home is across the street from the apartment complex and they were able to evacuate it.

The DPS officer reported 50-75 homes badly damaged.

From the look of the town, that would be just under a square mile of severe damage and destruction.
